Christian the Lion
| In the same mold as 'Born Free', this documentary style film, to me, is much better. It's about a 3rd generation London Zoo lion named 'Christian', that acts like a human...and his eventual introduction into a life with wild lions in Africa. Much of the film centers around George Adamson, and how he forms a pride of lions out of rehabilitated, orphan cubs. Which is just amazing. Never have i seen such love displayed by "ferocious beasts". 'Christian' is a cat like no other. He will surely touch your heart. We found it on a $1 DVD, at Family Dollar. It's a double feature disc with another family film ('Lil'Scratch'), on the opposite side, about an orphaned bear cub. The transfer quality isn't that good, but the story makes up for it. It has some sad scenes and shows carcasses of large mammals, so viewer discretion is advised.A very powerful and moving experience.***** 5 Stars. Highly recommended! |

Lion King
| Lion King is a story that can be seen from many good perspectives. It can also be alleged that it is not suitable for children, because of the violent scenes it contains. However, most of its content deals with the example of Mufaza to his son, example which lingers in his memory. That alone is enough reason to rate the movie as excellent. Besides, with a good review from the parents, this movie can leave much good in younger hearts about the realities of life. One of these is the sacrifice it involves to carry on anything that is of good report. All minds need direction, especially those of children. My advice is that parents, as they view certain scenes with their children, should make appropriate comments, so as to highlight the good in them. The movie is, then, appropriate for all audiences. |

Howard the Duck
| This was the first Marvel Comic movie! I love it! As a child, I loved it, and I watched it a few hours ago, and I still love it! It's awesome that a duck from another world named Howard is transferred to Earth and the lead singer from the rock band Cherry Bomb named Beverly is in trouble and Howard helps her. After that, they become good friends. As Howard is stuck on Earth, he tries to get a job and scientists want to study him, so Beverly, Phil, and Dr. Jenning try to help him. Something bad happens to the machine and a Dark Overlord takes over Jenning's body. Later, Jenning takes Beverly as a hostage and Howard and Phil must save her before the Dark Overlord summons his friends and destroys all life on Earth. The special effects are awesome! The look of the film is of the classic 80's! I highly recommend it! HOWARD THE DUCK IS A NEW BREED OF HERO!!!p.s. RELEASE THE DVD IN AMERICA ALREADY!!! |

101 Dalmatians
| After watching the special edition DVD of 101 Dalmatians, I have to say that the classic tale is just as memorable as it was when my cousin and I used to watch it on video when we were kids. As far as viewing it on DVD for the first time even though the credits on the back of the disc case say that the quality of the film is digitally remastered, I see virtually no differance in the over all look of the picture on screen. For instance, some shots in the film that show dogs Pongo and Purdy sitting with their puppies seemed a little dim. Pongo and Purdy show up quite clearly whereas the color of their puppies in the foreground appears to be somewhat shadowy as the camera goes from one character close up to another. One of the other draw backs on the DVD that I couldn't figure out were the French sub titles that appeared in some of the scenes throughout the beginning of the film such as, during the openning credits and on top of the headings of news papers and the names of stores around town. Other then a few weaknesses on the recently released DVD, needless to say, that the story and the characters haven't changed much in all the years that its been since 101 Dalmatians first made the leap from the big screen to video. The story is still very familiar and might I add quite predictable if you've grown up with the characters and the story over the years. However, the special features that were included on the DVD were a lot more interesting and certainly a lot more enjoyable as far as going behind the scenes and meeting the creative animators and visionaries that brought the wonderful childrens tale to life on the big screen. For me growing up with 101 Dalmatians, it is a long and meticulous process that most of the time doesn't get highlighted on a Blockbuster video tape. Interestingly enough, when Disney first started working on Dalmatians the hundreds of painters and animators who would spend so much of their time drawing and making the characters images jump off the page were being phased out by the new and more innovative Xerox machines of the 1950's which were deamed to be more efficient and more cost effective for the Walt Disney company to help move their franchise of making animated movies into a new direction. With animators aside it would be up to the voice over actors and actresses who would lend their gifted vocal talents to the characters that they would be bringing a mix of humanity to on paper. For instance, the actress who played the voice of "Anita" the animators modeled her character's movements based solely on her natural body language interacting with real dogs while sitting in front of a microphone workstation while voicing the character. One of the most interesting stories that I found on the DVD was the very close correspondence between the film's writer and Walt Disney himself. There's a nice documetary short that uses actors to portray the two pen pals. Over the course of the five years that it took to make the film, Walt Disney and author remained in touch with one another even sending her drawings of the dogs and especially, one of the film's villian Cruella Devil. During their close correspondence the pair became very close friends. Walt Disney even asked the film's writer if she would write a follow up story for Disney. Sadly, it never happened and 101 Dalmatians would forever remain their only collaboration together. In the end, 101 Dalmatians still remains a treasured Disney classic. One that is worth holding onto and preserving for future generations. Altough, not as creative and hillarious as the live action film with Jeff Daniels and Joely Richardson in the late 1990's, the DVD for the original 101 Dalmatians is worth checking out even if you're a Walt Disney fan or just like fun family movies about dogs. If you have young kids or family relatives that need to be entertained, this Disney DVD is definitely worth buying for the kid in all of us. Loved this movie as a little kid and am now watching it with my own child! This is and always will be a classic. From my 16 year old to my 2 year old to even me (at 45), We all love the movie. We plan on completing the Disney collection for Christmas. This is first rate Disney. I`m about 50. I love Disney!!!!.For the kid in all of us. Disney has great flicks!!.I bought this movie because my then 15-month-old daughter was obsessed with the ad (she kept pointing at it and barking at the dalmations). She really does love the movie, but here's my big problem: there are NO LESS than three minutes of crappy Disney and Disney-partner advertisements at the beginning, after putting in the DVD, and you are not allowed to fast-forward nor skip through them. You watch about five or six of them, then get to the menu where you get to finally push play, at which point you're treated to three more before the opening credits begin to roll. It's worse than a rented movie from Blockbuster, and at least with those you have the option of skipping through them!Overall, though my 19-month-old daughter loves watching the movie (in short segments), I loathe having to load it up for her because by the time the opening credits are rolling, she's usually lost interest and is playing with something else. |

Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade
| Indiana Jones (Harrison Ford) is just back from retrieving the Cross of Coronado (a quest he's been on for years) when he gets the news. His father (Sean Connery) has picked up the trail of the Holy Grail, a quest he's been on for years. Unfortunately, Dr. Jones Senior has vanished. So Indiana sets out for Venice to find his father.Once there, he realizes he and his father are in a race for time with the Nazis to find this holy relic. The Nazis want to use it to create an army of invincible soldiers since the cup is rumored to create eternal life from those who drink of it. The problem? The Nazis have key pieces of research the two need to locate and retrieve it. Can they find it first? Will they make it out of this adventure alive? This movie is lighter in tone, much more like the first one then the second one. In fact, I'd say it is the lightest of all three of them with fewer gruesome images then the first two. (No, that doesn't mean this is for the squeamish, however.) The acting is good, especially the chemistry between Harrison Ford and Sean Connery. They look like they are having fun together on screen. The story is clever and keeps you engaged with actions and plenty of laughs along the way. I did feel the action got repetitive in the middle, however. That's pretty much my only complaint. This movie is really nothing more then a mindless action film. But it's very good at it. If you are looking to be entertained, this movie will do it. |

Peter Pan
| The Peter Pan cartoon is a classic, but the problem with this DVD is that Disney put about two hours of previews on this DVD set that you are forced to sit through before the actual movie comes on. You can try to forward through these previews, but it still takes quite awhile to click through them all. It's too bad that advertising is Disney's first priority. |

Raiders of the Lost Ark

| Well it's Saturday morning movies again. Indiana Jones is the best of the action hero's and Raiders is still the best of these movies. Even after all this time, it still holds up. Settle back with a bag of popcorn and be prepared to have a great time. |
